Thresholds. Limits of Space (1/2): Tobias Prüwer & Lukas Feireiss
SPACE IS THE PLACE (Part 1/4)
Welt aus Mauern. Eine Kulturgeschichte (World of Walls. A Cultural History)
Lukas Feireiss in conversation with Tobias Prüwer
Event: Thursday, 25. October 2018, 7pm
Venue: BNKR, Ungererstrasse 158, 80805 München / archive.bnkr.space
As part of the current exhibition Thresholds. Limits of Space BNKR invites to an evening talk with the Berlin-based curator Lukas Feireiss and the Leipzig-based journalist and author Tobias Prüwer. Feireiss studied philosophy and comparative religious studies in Berlin and Rome, Prüwer studied philosophy and history in Leipzig and Aberdeen.
Tobias Prüwers most recent publication Welt aus Mauern. Eine Kulturgeschichte (Engl. World of Walls. A Cultural History) describes the cultural history of one of the most basic elements of architecture. Prüwer vividly recounts the history of the wall in all facets from the city and dam wall, weir system, ghetto, factory wall and garden of eden to more contemporary examples of ‘gated communities’, migration defense walls and the increasingly invisible walls in public space. Against this backdrop Feireiss and Prüwer will question together with the audience what walls reveal about the state of world, and what effect they have on its builders. The event will be held in German.
Under the title SPACE IS THE PLACE the upcoming exhibition cycle 2018-2019 (September 2018 – July 2019) conceived by Berlin-based curator Lukas Feireiss is dedicated to the artistic exploration of space. Through numerous events, solo and group exhibitions as well as an international symposium, SPACE IS THE PLACE investigates the experience, imagination and design of space in theory and practice together with artists, architects, musicians and dancers but also philosophers and scientists.
